4:08 — Magical Realism

He didn’t appreciate the calmness
of an orange and brown autumn so
it turned soggy blue-gray and called
up winds to whistle like long coal-black
trains all through the night.

He didn’t appreciate his wife’s
good cheer so she chartered a boat
in the next whistling black night leaving
a freezer full of gourmet casseroles
in her cheerful wake.
